“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Academy of Ophthalmology now finds it essential that all ophthalmologists cease providing any treatment other than urgent or emergent care immediately. … This is an existential crisis. We as physicians must respond to it and support our colleagues and our communities. Be safe.” – American Academy of Ophthalmology

In compliance with this, and a variety of other local and national guidelines, we have canceled all routine examinations. This extraordinary step has been taken for the safety of our patients, staff, and the community at large.

We are able to arrange in-person examinations on a case-by-case basis for pediatric eye urgencies or emergencies only. Urgent evaluations must be arranged by phone in advance of the visit. We request that one adult accompany the patient and other children remain at home if possible, to minimize the number of contacts for everyone. All patients and family members must NOT have: fever, cough, shortness of breath, or contact with a patient diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

We are also available for telehealth for routine visits if interested. Telehealth may include video conferencing when appropriate. Patients and families should be aware that telehealth visits are billed in a similar manner as in-person visits and require similar copays and deductible obligations. Please also be aware that telehealth visits are intrinsically limited, and it is not possible to obtain certain information, including but not limited to: visual acuity, eye pressure, ocular alignment, refraction (need for glasses), and dilated or microscopic eye examinations as well as could be done with an in-person examination.

We are rescheduling routine appointments with a place holder date, typically several months into the future. However, we remain uncertain as to what the future holds and will only resume routine examinations when it is safe to do so. In the interim, we will check our phone messages regularly, 518-533-6502.

We plan to move our office to a new location, 920 Albany Shaker Rd. in Latham, NY. The initial plan was to start seeing patients at the new office on June 1, 2020. At this time, we are unsure if the COVID-19 pandemic will force us to adjust our move date. We will continue to update this website as conditions change.
